Sharing Church, Being Church, Together

To give you a fuller experience of worship and connecting, I am including a prayer for you, the scripture reading for this week, some hymns and a devotion for your day.

Prayer:

Lord God, who made heaven and earth and creatures on the earth, I will sing about the wonders of your love forever, O God! I will tell everyone I meet about your faithfulness to all generations! I will declare that your love stands firm, that your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens above! Blessed are those who know you as their God, for they walk in the light of your presence! I will pray and praise you each day with joy. Amen.

Scripture: Psalm 89:1-4, 15-18

I will sing of your steadfast love, O LORD, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.

I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.

You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David: ‘I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.'” Selah

Happy are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your countenance; they exult in your name all day long, and extol your righteousness.

For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted.

For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel.

Devotional for this week: from Pastor Cecil Thompson

From moment to moment, new experiences and opportunities arise which are ordered by the Lord. I can only stand amazed in His presence. More and more I am aware of the need of prayer in every action I take. I remember an old hymn of the church, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”, that expresses just how much God loves us and provides for us.

In all of our busy activities and the heavy demands of life, we need to realize it is His faithfulness to us that counts. We tend to become preoccupied with our own actions and activities to such a degree that we focus on our faithfulness. The writer of this beloved hymn lets us know that it is God’s faithfulness that counts. What a comfort that is to us.

Think about how the Lord has directed your steps. He is always present in a mighty way to protect and comfort us. Sometimes the reason we are not more aware of His faithfulness is that we are too busy whining about our discomfort.

Instead of weeping and moaning, we need to be people of praise in the midst of the tests and trials of life. God’s Word is full of those who suffered loneliness, pain and even death with a shout of victory. What do you think they would say to us if they saw the way we behave? It is time to grow up and live differently than those who are unsaved.

We have had so many answers to our prayers that we can never stop praising Him. It makes us aware of His faithfulness to us when we turn all of our concerns and cares over to Him, and then leave them in His care.

Questions to consider:

How can I turn my whining into singing as I consider all that God has blessed me with?

What challenges can I give over to God so that I have more room in my heart and mind for God’s gifts to me?

How can I praise God this week?

Hymns:

Great is Thy Faithfulness

“Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father!

There is no shadow of turning with Thee;

Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not:

As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

CHORUS:

Great is thy faithfulness, Great is Thy faithfulness,

morning by morning new mercies I see;

All I have needed Thy grace has provided—

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!”

“Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,

Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,

Join with all nature in manifold witness to

Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

CHORUS:

“Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,

Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide,

Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow-

blessings all mine with ten thousand beside!

CHORUS:

I, The Lord of Sea and Sky

I, the Lord of sea and sky,

I have heard my people cry.

All who dwell in dark and sin,

My hand will save.

I who made the stars of night,

I will make their darkness bright.

Who will bear my light to them?

Whom shall I send?

CHORUS:

Here I am lord, is it I, Lord?

I have heard you calling in the night.

I will go Lord, if you lead me.

I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,

I have borne my people’s pain.

I have wept for love of them, they turn away.

I will break their hearts of stone,

Give them hearts for love alone.

I will speak my word to them

Whom shall I send?

CHORUS:

I, the Lord of wind and flame

I will tend the poor and lame.

I will set a feast for them,

My hand will save

Finest bread I will provide,

Till their hearts be satisfied.

I will give my life to them,

Whom shall I send?

CHORUS

To God be the Glory

To God be the glory
Great things He has done
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin
And opened the life-gate that all may go in

CHORUS:

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Let the earth hear God’s voice
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Let the people rejoice
Oh, Come to the Father
Through Jesus the Son
And give God the glory
Great things God has done

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood
To every believer the promise of God
The vilest offender who truly believes
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives

CHORUS:

Great things God has taught us, great things God has done
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our worship, when Jesus we see

CHORUS:
