Baden Powell Sunday
Soup & Bun Lunch after the Worship Service
Invitation to Worship: from Psalm 118
Leader: This is the day that the Lord has made
All: Let us rejoice and be glad in it
Leader: O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
All: his steadfast love endures forever!
Dear Father in Heaven, we know we are your children, we want to serve you faithfully, and we want to keep our Scouting and Guiding Promises. Help us to listen to your voice; help us to be willing and quick to do your work; help us to be friendly and loving; and help us to thank you every day for all your gifts to us. Through Jesus Christ, and with his words we pray, Our Father…
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:12-31
Message: “The Same, Only Different”
Theme: We are humans, all humans, the same only different. What if we could see each other as God sees us?
Candles around the World (for Thinking Day)
One large candle in the middle of the table.
Six smaller candles around the table.
The six candles are lighted as the following are read…
I light this candle in friendship for all people who are older or younger, taller or shorter or richer or poorer than me.
I light this candle in friendship for all people who worship differently to me.
I light this candle in friendship for all people of a different nationality or ethnic group to me.
I light this candle in friendship for all people who are a different colour to me.
I light this candle in friendship with all my sister and brother scouts and guides around the world
I light this candle for me, for I am unique and special.
This final candle is different from the rest; it’s unique just as we are all unique. We are all different and yet, like this candle, we all glow from the inside. Cherish the fact that underneath we are all the same but on the outside we are all different!
Watch the flames closely please. Notice the light from each candle is the same, even though the outside of each candle is different. So too, are all of us in the World.
We wear different clothes, speak different languages, follow different religions or beliefs, like different foods, sing different songs. Yet we all belong to the same human race.
Inside, we are all the same. We all wish to be recognised, we all wish to be called by name, we all wish for friends, we all wish for peace.
EVERYONE PLEASE SAY TOGETHER:
In the spirit of international understanding, we pledge ourselves to world friendship.
In the spirit of international understanding, we pledge ourselves to peacekeeping.
In the spirit of international understanding, we pledge ourselves to accept the challenge to “look wider still”.
